Chicago Ranks among Top Three Disability-Friendly Cities

send print Share

A recent study sponsored by the Open Doors Organization (ODO), a non-profit organization with a mission to teach businesses how to succeed in the disability market, revealed Chicago is among the top three cities most traveled by adults with disabilities.  This growing market segment includes business and leisure travelers.

General findings from the study, released in conjunction with the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), also identified patterns of hotel, restaurant and transportation use.

McCormick Place recognizes this growing marketing segment and recently implemented an enhanced mobility program for business travelers.

"McCormick Place is committed to providing all customers with superior customer service," said Jean-Baptiste Prunetti, Director of Guest Services for McCormick Place. "We are pleased to offer a comprehensive access program through a partnership with Scootaround Inc., allowing our customers to have the best meeting experience possible while in Chicago."

Through a partnership with Chicago-based ODO and Scootaround Inc., a leading mobility solutions provider, meeting planners have access to Scootaround's "Total Mobility Management" solution -- a comprehensive list of services including scooter and wheelchair rentals, and assistive staffing and attendee shuttling for all types of meetings and conventions.

According to Karen Tamley, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, "We are making great strides in making Chicago one of the most accessible cities in the nation.  From popular tourist attractions such as the Lakefront Festivals and Millennium Park to our 100% accessible bus fleet, we believe Chicago offers a wide range of accessible options for residents and visitors with disabilities."
