$51 Million in Convention Business Comes to Chicago in August

(Chicago, IL)-July 24, 2006- For the month of August, the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau (CCTB) has 40 conventions, trade shows and other meetings on record. These events are expected to attract 42,115 attendees, who will spend an estimated $51 million while in the city of Chicago.

Following are the highlights:

MICROSCOPY & MICROANALYSIS 2006 CONFERENCE
The Microscopy & Microanalysis 2006 Conference will take place July 30-August 3 at Navy Pier. It is expected to attract 4,000 delegates and generate an estimated $6 million in economic impact in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.
This five-day conference is the premier meeting for scientists and technologists who are interested in learning the latest advances in the biological and physical science field. The conference will feature the largest commercial exhibition of microscopy and microanalysis equipment in the world.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES (NACo) 2006 ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND EXPOSITION
The National Association of Counties will hold its NACo 2006 Annual Conference and Exposition at McCormick Place August 4-8. It is expected to attract 3,500 delegates and is expected to generate an estimated $7 million for the city of Chicago.
Attendees will be able to showcase their products to county government leaders, state associations of counties and county professional associates. They will also have the opportunity to network and learn about issues local government officials are facing in today’s world.

AFSCME 37th INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employee’s (AFSCME) will hold its 37th International Convention at McCormick Place August 7-11. It is expected to attract 6,000 delegates and generate an estimated $11 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.
The convention, made up of the largest and fastest growing public service employee unions, will feature workshops and networking opportunities focusing on the social and economic justice in the workplace.

DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS 2006 NATIONAL CONVENTION
The Disabled American Veterans 2006 National Convention will meet at Hilton Chicago August 12-15. It is expected to attract 3,500 delegates and generate an estimated $4 million in direct expenditures.
The four-day conference will feature a variety of meetings, seminars and workshops geared toward disabled veterans of the military and naval forces of the United States.

STYLEMAX™
Over 5,000 delegates will meet at the Merchandise Mart for Stylemax™. The show will be held August 12-15 and is expected to generate $5 million for the city of Chicago.
This women’s apparel and accessory trade show geared toward the retail-trade apparel market will feature more than 4,000 resources for department and specialty stores.

Life Safety Conference
The Chicago Fire Department’s 2006 Life Safety Conference will be held August 16-19 at Navy Pier. It is expected to attract 1,500 attendees and generate an estimated $2 million for the city of Chicago.
Exhibitors will display the latest in fire fighting and emergency equipment, emergency response vehicles and other new technologies. Attendees will learn how to develop plans and procedures, emergency system cooperation in life safety efforts and other practices.

ENERGY 2006
The U.S. Department of Energy will host Energy 2006 August 6-9 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. It is expected to attract 1,500 delegates and generate an estimated $2 million for the city of Chicago.
Energy 2006 is one if the largest gatherings of Federal energy managers in the country, representing all major federal agencies from around the United States. The conference features extensive exhibits, networking opportunities and informative technical tours.
